After last week’s Thanksgiving of gluttony, I’ve been feeling the need to eat a bit cleaner. Keeping my food whole, natural, and as healthy as possible. But let’s be real, that is nearly impossible during the holiday season. Everywhere I turn there are cookies, and candies. The cold weather and holiday spirit makes it easy to make excuses to eat larger portions, richer foods, and handfuls of appetizers.

So one of the way’s I’m trying to keep my diet in check this holiday season is by starting each day with a protein shake or smoothie. Generally, I stick with green smoothies, or if I’m feeling particularly ambitious, I’ll tackle this chai pumpkin smoothie, but I think I’ve found a new favorite.

Not only is this an easy smoothie, but it feels like a treat. It’s refreshing, healthy, and energizing, a perfect combo for the busy holiday season!

Ingredients (makes 1):

  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use a spirulina based one)
  • 1 TBSP coconut oil
  • 4-5 drops of peppermint extract
  • 4 large ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk
  1. Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
